Product Description

Elvacite® Methyl Methacrylate Resins are polymers based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). These materials are available as free-flowing, spherical beads easily dissolved in strong solvents. Elvacite® methyl methacrylate polymers have a relatively high glass transition temperature (Tg) and a lower solubility range than other Elvacite® resins. Therefore, these resins yield films with much higher hardness and chemical resistance than other Elvacite® resins. They also feature higher-tack temperatures, preventing blocking and adhesion to materials in contact with the film. Elvacite® methyl methacrylate polymers exhibit good solubility in certain ester, ether, chlorohydrocarbon, ketone, and nitroparaffin solvents.

Elvacite® Methyl Methacrylate Resins are commonly used in coating applications that require highly protective properties and durability and do not require a high degree of flexibility upon curing. This leads to its use as a film former in coatings that require good abrasion resistance. These methyl methacrylate resins are also exceptionally resistant to weathering and discoloration from exposure to UV light. Therefore, they exhibit outstanding color stability and gloss retention. Some common applications for Elvacite® Methyl Methacrylate Resins include lacquers for materials such as steel, bronze, brass, copper, and hard plastics. Like other Elvacite® grades, the methyl methacrylate grades also exhibit excellent clarity, making them exceptional for protective topcoat applications.
