Utilizing Xiameter® Silanes In Wire And Cable Applications Yield A Myriad Of Benefits

Silanes afford compounders process flexibility thereby improving performance and also allowing for higher extrusion rates. They also offer performance enhancements to wire and cable when used to graft polyethylene and when used to improve filler dispersion.

When used to graft/crosslink polyethylene, XIAMETER® silanes:

  • Improve thermal stability therefore increasing maximum use temperature
  • Reduce deformation under load
  • Improve chemical resistance
  • Improve impact strength

When used to improve filler dispersion, XIAMETER® silanes:

  • Reduce water pick-up
  • Improve electrical properties
  • Increases fire resistance

Grades used for these applications include OFS-6300 and OFS-6518. Silanes are typically added at 0.5 – 2% of the formulation.
