Tyzor® TOT, tetra-2-ethylhexyl titanate
Tyzor® TOT is a reactive alkoxy titanate that is used as a Lewis acid catalyst for esterification and to improve corrosion resistance of coatings.
Tyzor® TOT is a tetra-2-ethylhexyl titanate. It is commonly used as a low toxicity catalyst for esterification, condensation, and elimination reactions. It behaves as a Lewis acid in these reactions to improve yield and eliminate by-products. Tyzor® TOT is also used as an additive to cross link polymers with hydroxyl or carboxyl functionality. It can also be used to treat glass or metal surfaces to promote adhesion, increase surface hardness, and improve corrosion resistance. Thin, polymeric films of titanium dioxide can be made from Tyzor® TOT and used as a coating on glass to improve light reflection and add coloring effects like iridescence.
