MOLYKOTE^® PA-744 Anti-Friction Coating

• Organic resin–solvent binder system with graphite and MoS₂ solids – forms a strongly bonded, charcoal-gray dry film that delivers stable low friction and high load-carrying capacity on metal surfaces.
• Extreme wear resistance and high load capability – solid lubricants distribute contact stress and protect against scuffing and seizure where oil films can break down, especially on piston skirts and rings.
• Excellent resistance to motor oils – coating remains in place and functional in contact with engine and compressor oils, supporting long-term performance in lubricated systems rather than being washed away.
• Very wide service temperature range (approx. −75 °C to +300 °C) – maintains adhesion and lubricity from cold-start conditions to elevated operating temperatures in internal combustion engines and compressors.
• Dry-film lubrication, resistant to dust and contamination – once cured, the coating is dry and clean, helping avoid oil throwing, dripping, or dirt pickup and keeping critical clearances free from sludge or sticky residues.
• Low-noise performance – by stabilizing friction and reducing micro-welding and stick-slip at the skirt-to-cylinder interface, PA-744 helps lower mechanical noise from pistons and related sliding surfaces.
• Screen-printable and sprayable application – supports precise, repeatable film thickness on piston skirts and other components at production scale, improving consistency and quality in mass manufacturing.

Piston skirt scuffing and ring land wear during cold starts and run-in that lead to early engine or compressor damage; PA-744’s bonded graphite/MoS₂ film provides emergency lubrication and reduces direct metal contact in these boundary conditions.
Excessive mechanical noise from pistons and sliding metal surfaces that negatively affects NVH targets; PA-744 stabilizes friction and mitigates micro-seizing at the skirt–cylinder interface, helping reduce audible knock and rubbing sounds.
Loss of protection when oil film thickness collapses in highly loaded or low-speed zones (top and bottom dead center, compressor reversals); the dry coating maintains a lubricious surface even when fluid lubrication is intermittent or marginal.
Lubricant washout or dilution by motor oil in engine and compressor pistons, which can strip conventional coatings; PA-744 is formulated to resist motor oil attack, extending the life of the anti-friction film in oil-flooded environments.
Contamination, oil migration, or sludge formation from greases and oils in tight clearances where cleanliness and controlled clearances are critical; PA-744’s dry, bonded film minimizes migration and dirt attraction while still providing long-term lubrication.
