ECONEA®
ECONEA® is a metal-free antifouling agent for use in coatings for marine ship hulls and structures.
ECONEA® from Janssen is a technical grade of tralopyril used as an antifouling agent in antifouling paints and coatings. ECONEA® has a broad spectrum of activity against hard-shelled and soft-bodied invertebrate fouling marine organisms. Because ECONEA® is stable both chemically and physically, and has low water solubility and leachability, antifouling coatings containing ECONEA® can be specified for longer multi-year dry-docking intervals than copper-based paints. ECONEA® is approved by the U.S. EPA and the EU Biocidal Products Regulation.
ECONEA® can be used in combination with Zinc PYRION™ antimicrobial for complete protection against both hard and soft fouling.

Features & Benefits
EPA Approved (Reg. No. 43813-52) EU Biocidal Products Regulation Approved (528/2012) Improved color retention Fit for use on aluminum Low VOC Long-lasting efficacy Good thermal stability Good chemical stability Low water solubility Low leaching Broad spectrum control
Problems Solved
Biofouling on marine painted surfaces Metal contamination in seawater and other environmental concerns Short dry-docking intervals
Applications
ECONEA® is typically used in antifouling paints at a treat rate between 4% and 6% wt. ECONEA® can also be used at a lower treat rate with a copper-based biocide in order to reduce the amount of copper in the paint.
