Sulfole® 120 Mercaptan (TDM)
Sulfole® 120 Mercaptan is a sulfur-based chemical intermediate and chain transfer agent primarily composed of t-dodecyl mercaptan (TDM).
Sulfole® 120 Mercaptan is a mixture of predominantly t-dodecyl mercaptan (also known as tertiary dodecyl mercaptan or TDM) with other tertiary mercaptans. The intermediate is an excellent source of organic sulfur and contains branched C12H25 isomers that can be reacted to produce bulky C12H25 alkylthio substituents in chemical compounds. Sulfole® 120 Mercaptan is commonly used to produce lubricant additives with application in metalworking fluids and automotive and industrial lubricants. It is also used as a chain transfer agent to control the molecular weight of polymer modifiers undergoing free radical polymerization. Additionally, the mercaptan has applications in the production of butadiene and polystyrene polymers and in the manufacture of metallic decorative inks.
