MOLYKOTE® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound
MOLYKOTE® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound is an NLGI Grade 2–3, silicone-based, semi-flowable compound with a silica thickener for moisture-proof sealing. It is commonly used in electrical assembly.
MOLYKOTE® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound is a silicone-based, greaselike lubricant product that can be used across a broad range of equipment types and applications. MOLYKOTE® 4 Compound provides high dielectric strength and excellent water repellency, making it an ideal solution for moisture-proof seal performance in aircraft, automobile, and marine vehicle ignition systems.
Additionally, it exhibits impressive resistance to environmental factors, which ensures reliable protection against moisture, contaminants, and fluctuations in temperature. The compound's robust dielectric properties help minimize electrical leakage, thus safeguarding sensitive electrical assemblies and reducing maintenance requirements. MOLYKOTE® 4 is translucent, odorless, and maintains a semi-flowable, greaselike lubricant consistency across a broad operating temperature range of −40°C to 200°C (−40°F to 392°F). Consequently, this versatility makes it suitable for both routine and demanding industrial environments, offering dependable performance for electrical insulation in commercial and industrial applications.

Problems Solved
Leaky or poorly sealed O-rings can compromise the integrity of electrical assemblies, leading to water contamination, infiltration, or rust within vital components. Such issues not only threaten system performance but also increase the risk of equipment failure and unplanned maintenance. Inconsistent or inadequate dielectric strength may further exacerbate electrical faults, thereby exposing sensitive circuits to short circuits and degradation from moisture ingress. MOLYKOTE® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound is engineered to address these challenges by providing robust sealing capability, superior water repellency, and high dielectric strength, ensuring long-term protection for critical equipment across various industrial environments.
Applications
DuPont MOLYKOTE® 4 Electrical Insulating Compound can be used in a broad range of lubricating and sealing applications, including but not limited to the following: metal-on-plastic and metal-on-rubber surfaces, cable connectors, O-rings (polymer and elastomer), moisture-proof sealing, battery terminals, terminals requiring semi-flowable consistency, rubber seals, switches, assembly lubricant use, ignition systems, spark plug connections, and disconnection junctions. The compound's adaptability makes it suitable for maintenance operations where reliable moisture resistance and dielectric strength are paramount, such as in commercial electrical cabinets or sensitive industrial control equipment. Moreover, its stable performance across a wide temperature range ensures protection in both indoor and outdoor environments, thereby reducing the need for frequent reapplication and downtime. MOLYKOTE® 4 Compound was previously known as Dow Corning 4 or Dow Corning DC-4 silicone compound, thus procurement managers or engineers may recognize it under its former designation when reviewing historical maintenance records or equipment specifications.
