POLYOX™ WSR 205 is a nonionic, water-soluble poly(ethylene oxide) polymer with a molecular weight of 600,000 g/mol and a viscosity of 4,500–8,800 cPs when added to water at 5%. This is a versatile polymer that can be used as a film former, a thickener, or an emollient. For example, as a thickener in paint and coating applications, it can help prevent dripping and sagging when the material is applied to vertical or overhead surfaces.

Like other water-soluble resins in the POLYOX™ product line, POLYOX™ WSR 205 is thermoplastic and can be cast into a water-soluble film. Films utilizing POLYOX™ WSR resins can be used in packaging for premeasured doses of hazardous chemicals like pesticides or to create seed tape. Additionally, in the agriculture industry, POLYOX™ WSR 205 can be utilized for its drift control efficiency via rheology control of sprays. Here, POLYOX™ WSR 205 is primarily used as an adjuvant for crop protection.

For adhesives, POLYOX™ WSR 205 is an outstanding resin for tail tie adhesives, such as those found in paper towel and toilet paper rolls. Solutions with POLYOX™ WSR 205 have excellent wet tack and leave no tacky residue when dried. WSR 205 will remain soluble in water, resulting in adhesives that readily redissolve, making them conducive to repulping processes. Additionally, since it has low toxicity and is oxidatively degradable, POLYOX™ WSR 205 is an ideal option for general adhesive formulations that enable a circular economy.
