Sulfole® 90 mercaptaan is ook bekend als tert-nonylmercaptaan. Dit product is een mengsel van sterk vertakte C9H19-alkylmercaptan-isomeren, geproduceerd door de toevoeging van waterstofsulfide aan propyleentrimeer. Het wordt gebruikt als chemisch tussenproduct om tertiaire C9H19-alkylthiosubstituenten in moleculen te introduceren. Een ander gebruik is als ketenoverdrachtsmiddel om het molecuulgewicht van polymere systemen die vrije radicaalpolymerisatie ondergaan te controleren.
