Metallic Stearates for Plastic Manufacturing:

Metal Salt additives play an integral role within the plastics industry. Their combination of lubricity, hydrophilicity, and melt point allows the metal stearate stabilizers to be used in several applications. In plastics, metallic stearates are used as lubrication aids, mold release agents, or acid scavengers due to their high thermal stability properties. Lastly, these polymer stabilizers are used in plastics melt processing to optimize overall production output and produce finished articles with smoother surfaces.

Aluminum Stearates

Aluminum Stearates are offered in monostearate, distearate, and tristearate forms. The tri-soap has the lowest aluminum metal content and the highest free fatty acid content. Aluminum stearates can be used as gelling plasticizers in vinyl plastigels, and they can also be used as lubricants in polycarbonate formulations. Lastly, in plastic manufacturing, they provide the ability to thicken, repel water, and maintain good thermal stability.

Calcium Stearates

Calcium stearates are used as catalyst neutralizers or lubricants in polypropylene formulations. They are available in fine grind (FG) and fused forms depending on the particle size required. Precipitated versions provide finer particle sizes and are used in specialized polypropylene, such as thin fibers and films requiring optimum optical clarity. Calcium stearates are excellent for polyolefins and polypropylenes system applications. 

Zinc Stearates: 

PMC Biogenix offers a powder form of Zinc Stearates that acts as an excellent acid scavenger for Polyethylene, Polyurethanes, and Polystyrene system applications due to its fine particle size and low residual mineral impurities. The powder form of this grade delivers low dust handling capability, high heat stability, and dispersion abilities. Additionally, these stearates can be utilized in expandable polystyrenes to provide uniform cell nucleation. They are also excellent for use as lubricants in urea- and melamine-formaldehyde resin formulations. This metallic stearate can also be used in fiber-reinforced polyesters for their lubricity and dust-on anti-blocking properties.
