POLYOX™ WSR 1105 is a nonionic poly(ethylene oxide) polymer sold as a powder that is soluble in water. Compared to other water-soluble resins, POLYOX™ WSR 1105 is an intermediate–molecular weight (900,000 g/mol) polymer. At 5% in water, the solution containing POLYOX™ WSR 1105 will have a viscosity of 8,800–17,600 cPs. These properties give POLYOX™ WSR 1105 phenomenal thickening properties for water-based systems. This water-soluble polymer resin also provides excellent wet tack, making it an important addition to adhesive formulations. An example of the significance the wet tack POLYOX™ WSR 1105 provides is in adhesives like paper towels, tissues, or tail tie adhesives, where POLYOX™ polymers dry completely but can redissolve easily in water during recycling and repulping processes.

Other applications POLYOX™ WSR 1105 is used in include water treatment, electronics, and cleaning solutions. In water treatment applications, POLYOX™ WSR 1105 behaves as a highly efficient flocculant for different materials such as clay, silica, and fine coals. In electronic applications, POLYOX™ WSR 1105 is an excellent binder for fluorescent lighting, battery electrodes, and optical fibers, to name a few. Lastly, POLYOX™ WSR 1105 can be utilized as a rheology modifier in the formulation of household and institutional cleaners. Solutions that contain this water-soluble resin are highly viscoelastic and additionally make this grade an ideal rheology modifier for coatings and paints. For water-based coatings, paints, and cleaning solutions, POLYOX™ polymers improve cling and anti-sag properties.
