POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is a water-soluble poly(ethylene oxide) polymer typically used as a film former and binder for seed coatings, batteries, and lubricant strips.
POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is a nonionic, water-soluble poly(ethylene oxide) polymer with a molecular weight of 200,000 g/mol. Compared to other POLYOX™ water-soluble resins, POLYOX™ WSR N-80 has a relatively small molecular weight. It is highly soluble in water and forms a solution with a viscosity ranging from 65 cPs to 115 cPs at 1 wt% in water. It is highly useful as a film-forming resin and rheology modifier in coating, agriculture, and personal care applications.
In paint and coating applications, POLYOX™ WSR N-80 may be used as a film-forming resin or rheology modifier to reduce dripping and sagging. Films made from POLYOX™ WSR N-80 polymers are water soluble and biodegradable, making them ideal for seed tape and coatings, as they will not interfere with germination and growth once the seed is planted. When used as a resin in lubricant strips for razors, the POLYOX™ WSR N-80 polymer imparts outstanding lubricity and excellent skin feel. POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is also an efficient binder of inorganic salts. As such, it is a useful polymer in battery electrode applications.
