POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is a nonionic poly(ethylene oxide) polymer used as a water-soluble resin with a molecular weight of 200,000 g/mol. It creates a viscosity of 65–115 cPS at 1% when added to water, making it an ideal thickener in various formulations. This polyethylene oxide polymer is low in toxicity and features thermoplastic properties. In addition to use as a thickener, POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is used as a resin in water-soluble films, such as those found in agriculture and detergent applications.

When used in film applications, POLYOX™ WSR N-80 resins can be used for seed tapes and coatings, as this polyethylene oxide polymer will not interfere with seed germination and growth once it is planted. Additionally, films that utilize POLYOX™ have a high degree of water solubility, resulting in seeds that germinate under more controlled conditions and in environments with more nutrients and water present. POLYOX™ WSR N-80 is also a phenomenal film resin for encapsulating layers. It can be utilized in applications such as detergents, allowing for more convenient handling, with ingredients releasing only when they come into contact with water.

POLYOX™ WSR N-80 also behaves as an efficient binder for applications such as battery electrodes and separators.
