Mercaptans are widely used as chemical intermediates for the production of antioxidants, lubricant additives, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. They also find application as chain transfer agents to modify free radical polymerizations in the production of polystyrene, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), ABS terpolymers, poly-acrylates and methacrylates, as well as other vinyl type polymers.
