TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA is a high molecular weight sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with significantly fewer gel impurities than many other commercially available CMC materials.  The overall energy density of batteries is found to increase when CMC with a lower level of gel impurities is used in anode coating formulations.  Therefore, TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA is an extremely effective CMC binder material to use in anode coating slurries for lithium-ion batteries. 

When TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA is used as a binder for graphite lithium-ion battery anodes, it can improve the specific discharge capacity of the battery during very high C-Rates, enhancing charging speed.  Lithium-ion batteries made with TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA also see increased specific discharge capacity over multiple aging cycles, indicating that lithium-ion batteries made with TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA CMC binders have longer battery life.  TEXTURECEL™ 20000 P BA has a degree of substitution of 0.9 and forms solutions that have viscosity of 1,900 – 3,000 mPa·s at 1 wt% addition to water.
