POLYOX™ WSR 301

POLYOX™ WSR 301 is a water-soluble, nonionic poly(ethylene oxide) polymer with a molecular weight of 4,000,000 g/mol. One of the most versatile POLYOX™ grades available, POLYOX™ WSR 301 is used as a thickening agent and resin in many industries. When added to water at a 1% concentration, it will create a solution with 1,650–5,550 cPs of viscosity. 

In agriculture, POLYOX™ WSR 301 minimizes drift in agricultural sprays. When dissolved, it reduces the friction drag of water, which reduces agricultural spray pressure and controls the droplet size. The thermoplastic properties of POLYOX™ resins make them useful for forming water-soluble seed tape and seed coatings. 

When used as a thickener in concrete, the POLYOX™ WSR 301 polymer provides pseudoplastic rheology that improves the workability of the concrete and makes it easier to pump. Adding 25 ppm of POLYOX™ WSR 301 in a concrete formulation can lower the concrete pumping pressure by 16% and decrease air-entraining agents by 20%–30%.

POLYOX™ WSR 301 is also a highly efficient flocculant of siliceous materials in water treatment applications. In ceramic applications, it is used as a temporary binder that burns out cleanly and decreases extrusion pressure while increasing green strength. POLYOX™ WSR 301 is commonly used as the primary resin in lubricant strips for razors due to its lubricity. Additionally, POLYOX™ 301 WSR has a high degree of wet tack but will dry to be tack free. This property is important for tail tie paper adhesives, where it remains highly soluble and makes tissue paper easier to treat in wastewater processes.
