LANXESS Oxone™ in Repulping

Eco-Conscious Repulping with Oxone™

Oxone™ from LANXESS is a non-chlorinated oxidizer and processing aid for repulping. Commonly, Polyaminoamide-Epichlorohydrin (PAE) is used as a wet-strength resin to provide strength to paper but the resin-fiber bonds are very difficult to break.
Oxone™ has been demonstrated as highly effective on a variety of sanitary, food, packaging, and specialty papers containing wet-strength resin and made from different furnishes, such as bleach kraft, sulfite, chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP), recycled paper, and unbleached kraft.

Recommended Repulping Procedure

  1. The repulper is charged with the proper amount of water and broke, and allowed to circulate.
  2. The recommended repulping conditions are maintained throughout the run at:
    • Temperature: 60°C (140°F)
    • pH: 10.5
  3. Oxone™ is added at 2% of the dry weight of the broke.
  4. The mixture is allowed to circulate until a VSI rating of 5 or better is obtained.

Depending on broke type and wet strength resin content, repulping conditions may vary.
