As one of the fastest-growing regions for plastic packaging, North America has seen the emergence of new market trends in packaging technology. Polymer additives are vital in satisfying rising consumer demands, as they provide integrity, durability, and flexibility to said packaging materials. The Dow Chemical Company's portfolio of PARALOID™ impact modifiers and processing aids are designed to support superior performance for the lifetime of polymer.
There doesn't have to be a choice between sustainability or performance in plastic packaging technology. High-performance and sustainable packaging is possible with the incorporation of PARALOID™ impact modifier plastic additives. From polyolefin resins to acrylic polymers, PARALOID™ impact modifiers and processing aids provide a solution for whatever your packaging applications may be.
Dow PARALOID™ can provide:
PARALOID™ Impact Modifiers by Resin Type |
PLAs are among the most sustainable thermoplastic packaging materials. Polylactic Acid (PLA) is created from renewable feedstock, making this resin biodegradable. PLAs combine cost efficiency, environmental sustainability, and reliable performance in several packaging applications.
PARALOID™ BPM-520 is one of the highest performance impact modifiers for PLA resins and PLA blends. PARALOID™ BPM-520 provides an exceptional combination of impact strength, excellent colorability, and surface finish for injection molding applications.
PARALOID™ BPM-520 also provides high impact strength at room and sub-zero temperatures. Additionally, PARALOID™ BPM-520 can be used in compliance with the Commission Regulation (E.U.) No 10/2011 on plastics materials and articles intended to come into contact with food and with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements.
Engineered Resins:
PARALOID™ BTA Series is a range of MBS impact modifiers that provide exceptional impact resistance in clear PVC applications ranging from intermediate haze to the highest levels of transparency. PARALOID™ BTA grades are easy to incorporate into PVC formulations and reduce breakage during cutting and hold punching.
PARALOID™ BTA Products conform with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Regulation 21CFR 178.3790 governing their use in semi-rigid and rigid PVC plastics for food packaging and food contact applications.
PARALOID™ Processing Aids |
Processing aids are specialty additives used in plastic formulations to enhance the flow and improve the dispersion of fillers in processing-filled polymer compounds. PARALOID™ offers a wide range of dispersible acrylic process aids that are excellent for use in various plastic packaging applications.
PARALOID™ K-120ND is a readily dispersible acrylic processing aid that improves the processing of rigid and flexible vinyl compounds. It is excellent for use in vinyl packaging applications where clarity, rheology, and excellent dispersion are required. PARALOID™ K-120ND also offers the following features and benefits:
Readily dispersed in compounds without added gel
Shortened fusion time and more homogeneous melt for easier processing
Excellent melt strength and parison control
Increased output rates and improved production efficiency
Smooth glossy surfaces free of surface imperfections
Faster flexing and smooth-rolling in flexible calendared films
Complies with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations 21 CFR 177.1010 and 21 CFR 178.3790
PARALOID™ K-125 is an all-acrylic, general-purpose processing aid that offers outstanding efficiency in improving the processing characteristics of vinyl compounds. PARALOID™ K-125 also enhances processing properties with no adverse effects on impact strength, thermal stability, tensile properties, DTUFL, or electrical parts.
PARALOID™ K-125 is excellent for packaging applications as it provides a faster fusion of sheets, a shorter time to the smooth-rolling bank, and exceptional hot melt strength with low loading levels. PARALOID™ K-125 also offers the following features and benefits:
Improved productivity by reducing surging, decreased melt fracture and plate-out, faster takeoff, improved surface finish, and fewer rejects or shutdowns
Increased melt strength, faster fusion, and better edge formation
Increased sheet extensibility by a ratio of 5:1 in vinyl formulations
Compliant with FDA Regulation 21 CFR 178.3790 and 21 CFR 177.1010 for use in food contact applications
