POLYOX™ & UCARFLOC™ - Proven Products for Flocculation

What Are POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™?

POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ are nonionic, water-soluble polyethylene oxide (PEO) polymers with high molecular weights. These polymers are superior flocculants and filtration aids for fine particles present in effluent produced in mining operations, ceramic manufacturing, construction sites, pulp and paper mills, and other settings.

Key Benefits

  • Flocculate Using Less Material: Typical addition rates range from less than 1 ppm to 50 ppm, depending on the method of separation.
  • Improve Safety: Polyethylene oxide (PEO) shows a very low order of toxicity and is also used in applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics.
  • Increase Energy Conservation: PEO is very lubricious and can reduce drag in water circulation systems to reduce pumping pressure by up to 70%.
  • Reduce Shipping Costs: POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ are sold as dry powder, containing 100% active ingredient.
  • Avoid Import Fees: POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ are manufactured and warehoused in the United States.

<100 mg/L TSS well water

POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ can be used to treat water, either as a filtration aid or through sedimentation.

Typical use rates in wastewater treatment and remediation:
  • Settling tanks: 10–50 ppm
  • Filtration aid: <1–20 ppm

Sedimentation

For sedimentation, POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ can be mixed directly into turbid wastewater as a powder to initiate settling or can be mixed into water to create a stock solution, which can then be added to the wastewater.

Filtration Aid

If used as a filtration aid, POLYOX™ and UCARFLOC™ may be added as powder directly to wastewater without the use of a stock solution. For medium- to large-scale operations, this can be achieved with inline dosing equipment. These products enable the use of large–surface area coarse filters to retain the desired particulates and reduce maintenance and strain on finer filters that may clog quickly, such as geotextile and cloth filters.
