Wear between metal surfaces is a common issue in engines, and engine oil requires effective friction modifiers to prevent component damage. There are many different additive technologies available to formulators, but sulfur- and phosphorus-based chemistries can leave behind ash deposits, impact catalytic converter performance, and affect emissions.
