AQ™ 1950 is a low Tg water dispersible sulfopolyester polymer commonly used as a resin in hot melt adhesives.
Eastman AQ™ 1950 is a semi-solid sulfopolyester resin commonly used in hot melt adhesive formulations. AQ™ 1950 is easily dispersed in water at moderate temperature without the aid of emulsifiers or co-solvents. It has a Tg of 3°C and provides outstanding flexibility and tack when formed into a film.
Unlike polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and other water-soluble polymers, AQ™ polymers spontaneously form small anionic aggregates when added to water that remain suspended electrostatic repulsion without the need for surfactants or dispersants.
Odor: Fruity
Viscosity @177°C: 75,000-135,000 cP
Ring and ball softening point: 115°C
Glass transition temperature (Tg): 2.5°C ± 7.5°C
Hydroxyl number: 57 mg KOH/g
Form: Solid
Color: 4 max
Primary Chemistry: Sulfopolyester
Easily dispersible in water
Excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates including polyolefins, paper, and PET
Repulpable in both neutral and alkaline conditions
Adhesion failure to difficult, flexible substrates
Difficulty recycling paper products constructed with adhesive
AQ™ 1950 is easily recycled in the re-pulping process due to its water dispersibility making it an ideal base resin for hot melt adhesives used on paper and board.
