LUDOX® CL-P is an acidic aqueous dispersion of surface-treated silica. It carries a positive surface charge and is typically used as a frictionizing aid for paper.
LUDOX® CL-P is an acidic, 30% aqueous dispersion of surface-treated silica nanoparticles with a particle size of 22 nm. Unlike other LUDOX® grades with a negative surface charge, CL-P features a positive surface charge and is stabilized at a low pH. This positive charge makes it an effective surface modifier for paper, which typically has a negatively charged surface. Here, the deposited LUDOX® CL-P nanoparticles increase friction on the paper and help prevent slip and skid. LUDOX® CL-P is an efficient surface modifier for paper, corrugated sheets, boxboard, linerboard, and boxes. It is formulated to provide easy cleanup from metal surfaces of standard coating equipment. It can applied as a clear coating directly to surfaces without prior agitation to increase the coefficient of friction (COF). This coating also helps improve ink retention and print quality on paper.
As LUDOX® CL-P is present at a low pH, it may corrode metal equipment. Thus, it is more suitable for plastic application equipment. LUDOX® CL-X is the preferred grade for metal equipment.
