Armeen® 18D, Flake is a primary amine with an 18-carbon hydrophobic tail. It is used as a filming amine for mold release and corrosion inhibition applications.
Armeen® 18D, Flake is a distilled, octadecylamine flake product derived from vegetable sources. It is a cationic fatty amine most commonly used as a film former, but it can also be used as an emulsifier, a thickener, a surfactant, a corrosion inhibitor, and a boundary lubricant. Armeen® 18D, Flake is well suited as a processing aid for elastomers and provides outstanding mold release properties for the rubber industry. When applied to metal surfaces, Armeen® 18D, Flake forms a protective film that inhibits corrosion and provides lubrication. This makes it a useful additive for industrial coatings, especially marine protective coatings. In addition, Armeen® 18D, Flake can be used as an emulsifier for waxes, pigments, and other hydrophobic materials. It has broad FDA approvals and can be used in applications that require food contact.
Moreover, because of its hydrophobic C18 chain, Armeen® 18D, Flake demonstrates excellent compatibility with nonpolar matrices, enhancing its effectiveness as a dispersing agent for pigments and waxes in diverse chemical formulations. Therefore, it supports improved process stability and efficiency in operations such as hot-melt adhesive manufacturing or anticorrosion coating production. Furthermore, its relatively low melting point and high purity contribute to uniform application in industrial processes, reducing the risk of unwanted residue or contamination. Consequently, Armeen® 18D, Flake is often selected for its reliable performance in demanding environments, particularly when both protective and processing functionalities are required in a single additive.
