Synthesis of saturated polyester resins for powder coatings
Transesterification reactions run at temperatures between 140°C and 180°C
Can be active for esterifications as low as 180°C
Does not require neutralization or filtration at the end of production
Energy savings due to lower reaction temperatures
Low loadings and significantly shortened esterification and transesterification cycle time compared to uncatalyzed systems
Does not require neutralization or filtration at the end of production
Can be charged up front with other reactants and requires no special handling other than avoiding excessive exposure to moisture
Minimizes side reactions, such as dehydration and oxidative degradation of polyhydric alcohols, especially secondary alcohols
High energy costs due to higher reaction temperatures
Catalysts require neutralization or filtration at the end of production
Catalysts create various side reactions
Powder coatings
Chemical resin manufacturing
Production of PBT engineering resins for the automotive and construction markets
