SI Group Phenolic Resins

SI Group Phenolic Resins container

Overview

SI Group phenolic resins can be used as base resins, curing agents, cross-linkers, and tackifiers to improve adhesion and increase the open time. These versatile reactive compounds enhance adhesion properties for a wide range of adhesive, rubber reinforcement, composite, and coating applications. SI Group phenolic resins offer increased open time during manufacturing, providing flexibility and ease of use for complex conditions or processing. They are compatible with various substrates and bolster the structural integrity of adhesive formulations for robust and reliable solutions. These thermosetting polymers offer high heat resistance, strength, and chemical resistance due to their composition of phenol and formaldehyde.

Problems Solved

Challenges for rubber adhesives and contact cement formulations result from a lack of high-temperature resistance and weatherability. Extremely challenging processing and weather conditions can lead to degradation of adhesive properties. Rubber adhesive formulations experience difficulty due to short open time coupled with insufficient cohesive strength, which creates a limit in applications that require extended manipulation or strong bonding performance. Another significant problem is the phasing of elastomeric and rubber adhesives during storage or transportation, which may affect the effectiveness of the adhesive. Pressure-sensitive adhesives may experience low tackiness and cohesive strength, compromising their holding abilities. There can be a lack of structural integrity when exposed to high temperatures in filtration applications, such as sterilization.
