TrusTec® Reference Fuel B is a test fluid that meets ASTM D 471 specifications for rubber compatibility testing.
TrusTec® Reference Fuel B is a test fuel commonly used in the evaluation of vulcanized rubber's response to fuel exposure as outlined in the requirements of ASTM D 471. It allows manufacturers and laboratories to measure how well rubber products can withstand exposure to fuel. TrusTec® Reference Fuel B is a blend of 70% PRF Isooctane and 30% PRF Toluene by volume, which mimics the standard composition and properties of gasoline.
Isooctane: 69–71
Saybolt color: 25
Specific gravity: 0.7475–0.7485
Toluene: 29–31
Volume change, %: 2.0 max
Manufacturers producing vulcanized rubber products for applications that come in contact with fuel, such as automotive, aerospace, and refining equipment, require trusted test fuels to assess material compatibility. Rubber products incompatible with fuel can be susceptible to shrinking, swelling, or degradation, all of which affect equipment performance.
