Elvacite™ 4254 is a hydroxy-functional methacrylate copolymer resin used as an acrylic polyol in low-VOC, two-part polyurethane systems.
Elvacite™ 4254 is a low–molecular weight solid bean resin that typically functions as an acrylic polyol component of low-VOC, two-part polyurethane systems. When reacted with an isocyanate, the Elvacite™ 4254 copolymer forms polyurethane films with exceptional durability. Elvacite™ 4254 provides outstanding abrasion and UV resistance as well as better optical properties due to excellent gloss and water-white transparency. This resin offers a favorable balance of flexibility and hardness in many coating applications. Since it has a low molecular weight, it also enables high-solids, low-VOC formulations to be made. Elvacite™ 4254 can be used for creating protective topcoats and has low reactivity with pigments, making it ideal for formulating colored basecoats as well.
The hydroxyl functionality of Elvacite™ 4254 makes it useful in reacting with other polymers to form other hybrid resin systems, such as polyester-acrylic or epoxy-acrylic systems.
