It is an excellent source of sulfur for the production of lubricant additives used in finished lubricants and metalworking fluids. n-Dodecyl mercaptan is also used as a chemical reactant in the manufacture of antioxidants and can be used to make certain polymers, such as polystyrene and acrylics.
