Tyzor® TnBT is a highly reactive alkoxy titanate commonly used as a Lewis acid catalyst in esterification, condensation, and addition reactions.
Tyzor® TnBT is a 100% active tetra-n-butyl titanate in liquid form. The TnBT grade's most common use is as a Lewis acid catalyst in producing polyester polyols, polybutylene terephthalate, and polytrimethylene terephthalate, where it helps improve yield and eliminates unwanted byproducts. Tyzor® TnBT is also used in olefin polymerization as a Ziegler–Natta catalyst. As a metal catalyst, Tyzor® TnBT serves as a nontoxic replacement for organostannanes, tin, and other toxic metals used in organic synthesis. Relative to other Tyzor® titanates, TnBT is extremely sensitive to moisture and will decompose rapidly in water.
Tyzor® TnBT titanate can treat glass and metal surfaces to promote adhesion, increase light reflection, and improve resistance to heat, chemicals, corrosion, and scratches. Many Tyzor® grades, including TnBT, will form thin polymeric films of titanium dioxide on surfaces to increase iridescence and add coloring effects. Tyzor® TnBT can also be added to paints and coatings to cross-link polymers with carboxyl and hydroxyl functionality to increase heat and chemical resistance.
