METHOCEL™ Cellulose Ethers

Overview

METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers are water-soluble polymers derived from cellulose and they include Methyl Cellulose and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC or hypromellose).  METHOCEL™ Methylcellulose and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose polymers are produced when alkali cellulose is treated with methyl chloride and propylene oxide. The resulting cellulose ethers are water-soluble and a unique thermal gelation property.


METHOCEL™ polymers are used as thickeners, binders, rheology modifiers, film-formers and water-retention agents for a broad range of products. METHOCEL™ also functions as a suspension aid, protective colloid and emulsifier.


METHOCEL™ grades vary mainly in degree of substitution and molecular weight.  The viscosity of solutions of METHOCEL™ depends on the molecular weight of the polymer and the addition rate, whereas the solubility of the METHOCEL™ is dependent on the degree of substitution.  For more information about METHOCEL™ please select one of the available grades below.
