METHOCEL™ 254 is a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) polymer specifically developed to improve building and construction product performance. This grade of HPMC is highly retentive towards water and imparts a viscosity of 32,000 mPa·s when added to water at 2%. These properties help improve the strength and workability of manually applied and spray-applied plasters by preventing them from drying out too quickly and not allowing sufficient cure time.
METHOCEL™ 254 may also be used in ceramic tile adhesives to mitigate water loss to the surfaces of adhesive bonds, permitting stronger bonding. Similarly, adding METHOCEL™ 254 to mortars will also ensure higher durability. The distinct particle-size distribution of the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose polymers of METHOCEL™ 254 helps it dissolve quickly, and these polymers are unaffected by pH in terms of dissolution rate. This makes formulating with it efficient and easy. Furthermore, it is compatible with all mineral binders, making it highly versatile.
