METHOCEL™ E50 Premium LV is a water-soluble methyl cellulose polymer with very high purity. It is highly substituted with methoxy functional groups, and moderately substituted with hydroxypropyl functionall groups. The hydroxypropyl group content gives the E4M Premium grade compatibility with some common organic solvents. METHOCEL™ E50 Premium LV is primarily used as a thickener, binder, and film former. It will reversibly gel at temperatures above 55°C. Solutions containing METHOCEL™ E50 Premium LV are thixotropic in nature.
These properties make it an ideal binder for ceramics to boost green strength and a perfect thickener for household cleaners as well as paints, coatings, and adhesives. METHOCEL™ polymers have excellent stability to extreme pH and can provide viscosity control in both acidic and alkaline systems.METHOCEL™ E50 Premium LV is also useful in PVC suspension polymerization where it functions as a suspending agent to control porosity and bulk density of PVC resin grains.

Sag of water based coatings, adhesives, and sealants due to low viscosity
Poor green strength of ceramics
Unstable viscosity and short dwell time of cleaners on surfaces
Defects in extruded and pressed materials
METHOCEL™ E50 Premium LV is used when higher purity is required in ceramic, PVC suspension polymerization, household cleaners, agriculture, coating, and ink applications.
