KATHON™ CG/ICP for Detergents and Cleaning Products

KATHON™ CG/ICP is an EPA-registered, broad-spectrum microbicide used for the preservation of a wide variety of household and industrial products.
KATHON™ biocides and preservatives are based on isothiazolinone chemistry that provides broad antibacterial protection and inhibits microbial contamination of a wide range of products at a very low level of use. KATHON™ products are manufactured by LANXESS and previously manufactured by Dow and DuPont.

Antimicrobial additives are typically used in water-based formulations to prevent microbial growth of organisms that contaminate organic materials causing spoilage issues and a short lifetime of consumer products.

Many biocidal chemistries are available for use as preservatives depending on the application and formulation needs. The isothiazolone active of KATHON™ preservatives offer excellent compatibility with surfactants and emulsifiers over a wide pH range. The biocide is commonly used to provide microbial protection to liquid laundry detergents, hand dishwashing detergents, fabric softeners, air fresheners, floor waxes, polishes, and many other consumer-related products.

Chemistry of KATHON™ CG/ICP Preservatives

KATHON™ CG/ICP and KATHON™ CG/ICP II biocides contain the same type and level of active ingredients (A.I.). The biocides are based on a mixture of two isothiazolinones identified by the IUPAC system of nomenclature as 5-chloro-2-methyl-4- isothiazolin-3-one or Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CMIT) and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one or Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).

What Makes KATHON™ CG/ICP The Best Preservative?

  1. Single preservative protects against bacteria, fungus, mold, and yeast

  2. Low dosage rate, 0.05-0.15% (500 ppm -1,500 ppm as supplied)

    • Cost-effective, low cost per use

    • Less performance impact on formulations

    • Lower inventory cost

  3. Formaldehyde-free
  4. Rapidly biodegradable
  5. Environmentally acceptable
  6. The active ingredient is listed in the EPA safer choice list
  7. Prevents spoilage and contamination of cleaning formulations color or odor imparted to household/industrial consumer products
  8. Inhibition of microbial organism growth in a wide range of liquid detergents and cleaning applications
