KATHON™ CG/ICP for Detergents and Cleaning Products
KATHON™ CG/ICP is an EPA-registered, broad-spectrum microbicide used for the preservation of a wide variety of household and industrial products.
KATHON™ biocides and preservatives are based on isothiazolinone chemistry that provides broad antibacterial protection and inhibits microbial contamination of a wide range of products at a very low level of use. KATHON™ products are manufactured by LANXESS and previously manufactured by Dow and DuPont.
Antimicrobial additives are typically used in water-based formulations to prevent microbial growth of organisms that contaminate organic materials causing spoilage issues and a short lifetime of consumer products.
Many biocidal chemistries are available for use as preservatives depending on the application and formulation needs. The isothiazolone active of KATHON™ preservatives offer excellent compatibility with surfactants and emulsifiers over a wide pH range. The biocide is commonly used to provide microbial protection to liquid laundry detergents, hand dishwashing detergents, fabric softeners, air fresheners, floor waxes, polishes, and many other consumer-related products.
Chemistry of KATHON™ CG/ICP preservatives:
KATHON™ CG/ICPand KATHON™ CG/ICP II biocides contain the same type and level of active ingredients (A.I.). The biocides are based on a mixture of two isothiazolinones identified by the IUPAC system of nomenclature as 5-chloro-2-methyl-4- isothiazolin-3-one or Methylchloroisothiazolinone (CMIT) and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one or Methylisothiazolinone (MIT).
