Makar's appointment marks Univar's continued focus on expanding its presence in the oil and gas sector. He has more than 30 years of oilfield and senior management experience including work in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South East Asia. In his new role at Univar, Makar is responsible for building Univar's Oil & Gas capabilities and growing business throughout the Middle East and the rest of Europe and Asia.

Prior to joining Univar, Makar served as Regional Vice President for Clariant. At Clariant, he increased the company's presence in the Middle East market and built significant year- over- year increases in sales, profitability, and market share.

Makar earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from St. Andrews University in Scotland.
