MOLYKOTE® YM-102 Grease is a synthetic, lithium-soap grease with solid lubricants designed for heavily loaded plastic gears, rails, slides, and actuators in automotive and electrical assemblies. It delivers high load-carrying capacity and a very low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for plastic-on-plastic and plastic-on-metal interfaces that can’t tolerate standard mineral greases. YM-102 offers a broad service temperature range from -50 °C to 150 °C, so interior mechanisms, actuators, and small drives keep moving smoothly from cold start through sustained operation. Low seepage, low evaporation, and good oxidation resistance help keep enclosed housings clean and extend relubrication intervals. The grease is compatible with most engineering plastics, so you can lubricate high-load plastic gears and guides without triggering stress cracking or swelling. For design engineers and maintenance teams dealing with worn plastic gears, rail chatter, or actuator failures, MOLYKOTE® YM-102 is a purpose-built plastic gear grease that’s worth reviewing with a ChemPoint specialist.
MOLYKOTE® YM-102 Grease is a synthetic lithium soap-based grease formulated around a polyalphaolefin (PAO) base oil with special solid lubricants. The base oil viscosity of about 29 mm²/s at 40 °C and an NLGI 1–2 consistency provide a balanced film: fluid enough to wet plastic and metal surfaces, but structured enough to stay in place on vertical rails and in small enclosed gearboxes. Typical properties such as a Four-Ball weld load above 4,000 N and wear scar around 0.4 mm indicate strong extreme-pressure and anti-wear performance relative to typical light plastic greases.
Application guidance positions YM-102 as a heavy duty grease for plastic-to-plastic and plastic-to-metal pairs at low to moderate speeds and high loads, including highly stressed plastic gears in cars, audio-video units, office equipment, and precision mechanisms. In automotive, it is recommended for rails, slides, and actuators, where compact plastic gear trains and guides operate under high tooth loads and must stay quiet and smooth over the life of the vehicle. The broad service temperature range of -50 °C to 150 °C allows these mechanisms to function in cold-soak conditions while retaining film strength and wear protection as cabin or under-panel temperatures rise.
From a reliability standpoint, YM-102 combines low oil separation (~4% at 100 °C/24 h), very low evaporation (0.2% at 99 °C/22 h), excellent oxidation resistance, and top-tier corrosion protection (SKF Emcor corrosion degree 0). That means the grease stays where you apply it, resists drying out, and protects steel components even in humid or mildly corrosive environments. As a MoS₂-free system with solid lubricants tailored for plastics, YM-102 delivers low friction without the dark, staining residue often associated with molybdenum disulfide.
For OEM and Tier suppliers, YM-102 is a cataloged, production-ready plastic gear grease with a 36-month unopened shelf life at cool storage conditions, available in 1 kg cans and larger pails. For MRO teams, it offers a single, high-load solution for plastic gears and guides across automotive actuators, electrical appliances, and office or precision equipment—reducing the need to manage multiple specialty greases for similar plastic interfaces.
Premature wear and tooth damage in heavily loaded plastic gears used in automotive rails, slides, and actuators Plastic stress cracking or swelling caused by incompatible greases in actuators and precision equipment Grease migration and contamination inside enclosed housings where cleanliness is critical Loss of smooth operation at temperature extremes in automotive and electrical mechanisms
