Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)
METHOCEL™ K100LV Premium is a low-viscosity hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) with a moderate degree of hydroxypropyl substitution. Compared to METHOCEL™ K100LV, METHOCEL™ K100LV Premium is created to have minimized impurities that may interfere with the quality of formulations subject to stringent regulatory examinations. METHOCEL™ K100LV Premium forms a solution with a viscosity of approximately 100 cPs when added to water at 2%. These solutions have shear-thinning rheology and are lubricious, making them useful for improving workability in chemical formulations. This thickener has moderate solubility in organic solvents and excellent pH stability. It is ideal for use in coating, paint, cleaner, and adhesive applications and can help improve formulation stability by keeping ingredients in suspension longer.
METHOCEL™ K100LV Premium also features thermal gelation properties, with solutions reversibly gelling between 70°C and 90°C, producing a soft gel. This property helps boost green strength in ceramics and adhesives.
