Mitsubishi Chemical Group’s Diakon® and Elvakon® are polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) products known for the high quality and functional properties they offer in injection molding, extrusion, and coextrusion applications. Manufacturers of parts typically made of PMMA gain the highest degree of optical clarity, weathering resistance, gloss, surface hardness, and processability when using Diakon® and Elvakon®. Applications of plastic products that benefit from using this PMMA material include lighting housings, medical devices, lenses, and certain architectural and transportation fixtures, to name a few.
Diakon® PMMA is designed for injection molding applications and is typically used for creating superior optical clarity and durability in products such as optical lenses, casted parts, and automotive fascia. These products have very high weathering resistance, light transmission, optical purity, and water-white edge colors. Diakon® is offered as spherical acrylic beads, and the PMMA polymers that constitute it typically range between molecular weights of 80,000 and 120,000. Different grades are available based on varying degrees of melt flow and maximum working temperature needed within specific end-use applications or industries. Certain grades are available that are compounded with various levels of impact modifiers to allow for increased durability.
Poor light transmission through acrylic parts
Deterioration of clarity and color under exposure to harsh environments
Low durability of acrylic parts exposed to mechanical stress
