EMAC® Ethylene Methyl Acrylate Copolymers

Key Applications

Blown Films; Cast Films; Extrusion Coatings; Tie Layers; Masterbatching; Compounding

Product Description

Westlake's EMAC® copolymers are ethylene methyl acrylate resins that improve physical properties and performance in film blowing and casting, extrusion coating, tie layer, masterbatch, and plastic compounding applications. While there are various EMAC® copolymer grades, each providing specialized performance based on application, all are highly compatible with other polymers and fillers, are noncorrosive, and provide excellent flexibility at low temperatures. EMAC® grades designed for film manufacturing provide good flexibility and antiblocking properties. They achieve a high degree of flexibility without the use of plasticizers. Some grades offer a low or high coefficient of friction to modify film surfaces for different applications. In extrusion coating and laminating applications, certain EMAC® grades offer excellent flexibility, polymer compatibility, and adhesion to various materials. They also facilitate low heat-sealing temperatures, which help improve workability and processing economy. EMAC® grades preferred for use in masterbatch and compounding applications typically have low viscosity, high compatibility, and a large capacity for filler loading. Some grades even offer impact resistance to polymers such as PET. Westlake has also developed specialized EMAC+® grades, which provide performance in high-temperature environments and outstanding adhesion for versatility and use in high-performance applications.
