LOCTITE® 549 is an orange, medium-strength, slow-curing gasket sealant for close-fitting metal flanges. Its thixotropic consistency supports neat application and it provides an instant seal to low pressures immediately after assembly.
LOCTITE® 549 is a single-component anaerobic gasketing product that cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces. It forms a durable seal that resists vibration and leakage while still permitting disassembly if required. It is ideal for demanding flange applications in pumps, compressors, thermostat housings and transmission components. The orange colour offers clear visual confirmation of coverage and no mixing is necessary before use.
Colour is orange and thixotropic in appearance
Viscosity ranges between 10 000 and 35 000 mPa·s (Brookfield RVT, spindle 6, 20 rpm)
Shear strength on grit-blasted steel is 3.6 N/mm² (520 psi) after 72 hours cure
Fixture time under typical conditions is immediate low pressure hold with full cure achieved within 24 to 72 hours ()
Service temperature range extends from –55 °C to +150 °C
Shear strength at 24 hours exceeds 2 200 psi (15.2 N/mm²) on steel
