The presence of dissolved gases, even in small amounts, can be detrimental to water systems that are contained by metal surfaces. When metal surfaces are in contact with industrial water that contains oxygen, pitting can occur. Although pitting is highly concentrated to smaller areas of total metal surfaces, even small amounts of metal loss can cause system failures. Hydroquinone Industrial from Eastman is an effective oxygen scavenger in water treatment applications.
Hydroquinone is extremely effective at reducing corrosion in water treatment applications when acting as a catalyst with hydrazine, DEHA, and Carbohydrazide.
Hydroquinone is effective as a stand-alone oxygen scavenger, and has a lower toxicity and is less hazardous than other common alternatives.
Hydroquinone provides protective passive oxides with iron and copper.
Hydroquinone does not degrade to ammonia, making hydroquinone safe for use with copper-containing alloys.
Hydroquinone has a unique ability to react quickly against oxygen, even at ambient temperatures. Other alternatives, such as hydrazine, react slowly, particularly at lower temperatures, resulting in handling problems and ammonia formation with copper bearing alloys.
