Processing Methods

What is Dow VERSALOID™?
VERSALOID™ is a novel flexible acrylic resin (FAR) that is manufactured using an award-winning polymer technology from Dow. VERSALOID™ was designed to push the performance limits of traditional engineered acrylic resins with high-stress whitening resistance, excellent flexibility, UV resistance, and color retention in outdoor applications. All while being able to perform in a vast service temperature range, maintain excellent tensile strength, and other physical attributes while remaining flexible and ductile throughout the process.

Application Details of VERSALOID™ Flexible Acrylic Resin:
VERSALOID™ flexible acrylic resin is supplied as a thermoplastic powder that can be processed via a variety of traditional processing methods:
- It can be extruded into pellets, sheets, film, profile, and pipe forms
- It can also be processed by calendaring, injection molding, and compression molding into sheet, film, profile, and pipe forms

UV and Weathering Resistance
VERSALOID™ provides a clear flexible acrylic resin that exhibits exceptional weathering resistance for more than 3,000 hours of severe test conditions. Formulation 1 is formulated with higher UV blocker for protective film applications.

Blending with Other Resins
VERSALOID™ Flexible Acrylic Resin is miscible with a variety of other resin systems that enables a wide range of performance properties in resulting alloys such as:
- Increased toughness and reduced usage of plasticizes in PVC formulations
- Retain good clarity when blended with PVDF at up to 1: 2 ratio in applications such as solar cells
- Unlike plasticizers, VERSALOID™ does not decrease the hardness of the alloy and unlike PMMA, it does not increase the hardness of the acrylic resin mix
