Metakaolin GMK S 5
Metakaolin GMK S 5 is a high reactivity aluminosilicate pozzolanic additive that is used to increase the strength and durability of concrete and cement.
Grace Metakaolin GMK S 5 is produced by heating kaolin clay to between 1200 - 1650°F. This heat treating alters the structure of the clay to produce a highly reaction supplementary cementitious material (SCM). Grace Metakaolin is classified by ASTM C-618 as a class N pozzolan and it is produced under controlled conditions so that performance remains consistent. Grace Metakaolin has a high surface area and high reactivity. When added at ~10% by weight to cement, large increases in strength, durability, and impermeability can be achieved. GMK S 5 is manufactured by Grace in an ISO 9001:2008 certified facility in South Carolina, USA.

Features & Benefits
Improved chemical resistance, compressive, tensile and flexural strength Lower rapid chloride permeability diffusion Improved efflorescence control Reduced greenhouse emissions Reduced expansion due to alkali-silica reaction and sulfate attack Earlier release of formwork Does not discolor light colored cement based products
Problems Solved
Low compressive, tensile, and flexural strength of lightweight concrete. Discoloration of light colored cement products caused by admixtures. Slow development of green strength in cement based products.
Applications
Grace Metakaolin GMK S 5 is used as an admixture with Portland cement to produce high strength concrete, plasters, grouts, and mortars. It has also been used with geopolymers to manufacture highly sustainable building materials.
