SYLOBLOC® P09 is a silica antiblocking agent with low pore volume, a large particle size, great optical properties, and easy dispersion in plastic films.
SYLOBLOC® P09 is a synthetic amorphous silica (silicon dioxide) antiblocking agent sold as a free-flowing powder. Relative to the rest of the SYLOBLOC® series, SYLOBLOC® P09 has very low pore volume and a large particle size. It is typically used in masterbatches and compounds for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) intended to make thick films. Given its large particle size, SYLOBLOC® P09 is best suited as an antiblocking aid for film thicknesses greater than 70 µm. As mentioned previously, it is a synthesized silica product, meaning it contains very low impurity content that reduces the optical quality and clarity of films. This low impurity content also provides high antiblocking efficiency, achieving this with low use rates. This is mainly apparent when compared to natural minerals, such as talc and diatomaceous earth. While SYLOBLOC® P09 has a relatively large particle size, a degree of abrasiveness similar to or lower than platy-like antiblocking additives when considering the same antiblocking force. Like other SYLOBLOC® grades, SYLOBLOC® P09 is noncarcinogenic and offers a safer option for antiblocking than additives like talc. It is typically used in films that create food packaging.
