Lattice® NTC-90 is a water-dispersible microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) powder commonly used as a suspension aid and emulsion stabilizing agent.
Lattice® NTC-90 is a microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) powder that contains carboxymethylcellulose. It functions as a suspension aid and emulsion stabilization aid. Since microcrystalline cellulose is naturally insoluble in water, Lattice® NTC-90 includes carboxymethylcellulose, a water-soluble hydrocolloid that helps make dispersion and activation in water easy. This causes Lattice® NTC-90 to be considered a "colloidal" type of MCC. Compared to other Lattice® NTC grades, NTC-90 is the easiest MCC to disperse and activate in water and imparts lower viscosity to formulations.
Lattice® NTC-90 functions by forming a stable 3D gel network with high pH and temperature stability. This network provides utility in encapsulating and stabilizing water-insoluble particles. Therefore, Lattice® NTC-90 is an ideal stabilizing agent in water-based formulations based on suspensions and emulsions, such as suspension concentrates and printing inks. It provides advantages over other stabilizing agents by imparting a lower viscosity. In agrochemical suspension concentrates, for example, Lattice® NTC-90 prevents the aggregation and crystallization of active ingredients with minimal viscosity increase to facilitate easier spraying and tank mix cleaning. Lattice® NTC-90 also improves the stability and homogeneity in emulsion-based ink formulations and is especially useful where high viscosity is undesirable.
Compared to other Lattice® grades, NTC-90 requires a low level of shear to be activated. As mentioned, it will only increase viscosity by a minimal amount in formulations. For more information on how to disperse and activate Lattice® NTC-90, check out this content.
