Elvacite® core acrylic resins are polymers or copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) or other acrylic monomers that provide resistance to numerous surface degradation conditions including ultraviolet damage, weathering, and abrasion when used in specialty coatings, inks, adhesives and lacquers on plastics, metals, concrete, wood and paper. These resins are available as minute spherical beads in grades that provide different levels of hardness, flexibility, solubility and solution viscosity. They are thermoplastic and thermally stable up to 177-232°C (350-450°F), well above their softening range. At higher temperatures – around 260°C (500°F) or above – they undergo smooth depolymerization to monomers, leaving negligible ash.
