Key Applications
coatings; inks; adhesives; vinyl lacquers, silk screen inks; temporary binders; ceramic coatings; aluminum coatings
Product Description
Elvacite® Butyl Methacrylate Resins are specialty polymers based on n-butyl and iso-butyl methacrylate. They are high in molecular weight and have a low Tg. These solid bead acrylic resins are often used in applications that require good flexibility and outstanding adhesion to nonporous surfaces, such as in adhesives and coatings for flexible packaging or overprint varnishes.
Elvacite® Butyl Methacrylate Resins are soluble in a broad range of solvents, including low-cost aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols. Thus, they have good solubility in commonly used thinners, such as mineral spirits and VM&P naphtha.
Since these polymers have a low Tg, they do not normally require plasticization and can also be used to plasticize other resins, including cellulosics, alkyds, vinyl chlorides, and acrylics. Elvacite® Butyl Methacrylate Resins, like all other Elvacite® resins, have excellent resistance to water, dilute acids and alkali, chemical fumes, and corrosive or oxidizing environments.
