Elvacite® methacrylate copolymers are specialty acrylic resins with varying monomer compositions and molecular weights, leading to a broad range of physical properties, including glass transition temperature, solution viscosity, and solubility parameters. They are available as minute spherical beads that can dissolve rapidly in many solvents.
In general, Elvacite® methacrylate copolymer resins present intermediate properties in terms of hardness and tack temperature compared to methyl methacrylate resins and butyl methacrylate resins. In coating applications, Elvacite® methacrylate copolymer resins form clear, water-white, durable films that range by grade in flexibility, hardness, and gloss. Elvacite® methacrylate copolymers are also suitable for a wide variety of ink and adhesive applications, where properties such as tack temperature and hardness can be customized by selecting the appropriate resin.
Like all other Elvacite® resins, methacrylate copolymer resins exhibit excellent weatherability and high resistance to UV degradation. Additionally, they provide good resistance to abrasion, moisture, dilute acids and alkali, and corrosive environments.
