Armolube® EM 301 is an ethoxylated diamine that acts as a weakly-cationic co-emulsifier in metalworking fluid and industrial lubricant formulations.
Armolube® EM 301 is a high-performance ethoxylated diamine co-emulsifier and lubricant additive from Nouryon's Armolube® portfolio. It significantly boosts the alkalinity and total base number (TBN) of a wide range of lubricants and fuels, including industrial fluid formulations, automotive lubricants, heavy fuel oils, pyrolysis oils, cutting fluids, and other types of synthetic and semi-synthetic metalworking lubricants. Armolube® EM 301 is based on tallow alkyl diamine, and supports oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsifications, exhibiting excellent hard water resistance and long-term emulsion stability. It also provides enhanced dispersancy, wetting, and rust and corrosion inhibition, as well as reduces friction in boundary lubrication regimes. The additive is ashless and readily biodegradable, with more than 50% renewable content, making it an excellent option for sustainable applications. The recommended treat rate varies depending on use, but typically ranges between 0.1% to 1% of the formulation by weight.

Emulsion failure in metalworking and industrial fluids leads to reduced performance, shorter fluid life, equipment damage, or higher costs. Lubricant formulators often rely on multiple additives to solve for various challenges, complicating supply chains and blending. Additionally, non-biodegradable or metal-heavy lubricants can contaminate soil and water and threaten ecosystems, making them unsuitable in many jurisdictions or environmentally-sensitive areas.
