LOCTITE® 406
LOCTITE® 406 is an ultra low viscosity, transparent ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive that cures by ambient humidity. It is especially designed for plastic and rubber substrates, delivering extremely fast fixture and forming exceptionally thin adhesive films to bond even the smallest gaps.
LOCTITE® 406 provides rapid bonding performance on challenging substrates like EPDM, ABS, PVC and polycarbonate. Its low viscosity (12–25 mPa·s) allows the adhesive to wick into tight or blind joints, achieving handling strength typically within 5 to 30 seconds on flexible rubbers and 10–45 seconds on degreased metals. The adhesive cures further over 24 hours to develop optimum shear strength. Its formulation meets A A 3097 Type II Class 3 standards for surface insensitive cyanoacrylate, making it reliable in industrial assembly. It accommodates adhesive gaps up to 0.12 mm and retains full functionality across temperatures from –40 °C to +120 °C. Compatibility with LOCTITE® SF 770 primer enables bonding of difficult plastics such as PP, PE or PTFE when needed.
Specifications

Features & Benefits
Ultra-low viscosity wicks into minute gaps for clean and precise application
Very fast fixture times across a broad range of substrates
Surface-insensitive characteristic reduces sensitivity to substrate preparation
Extremely thin bond lines maintain component aesthetics
Compatible with primer for bonding difficult plastics
Problems Solved
Enables bonding of materials that are usually hard to glue such as flexible rubber and plastic with minimal gap
Prevents adhesive build-up or overflow—ideal for small or sensitive assemblies
Reduces waiting time during manufacturing due to rapid fixture
Supports production efficiency without sacrificing bond strength or reliability
Applications
Use LOCTITE® 406 on plastic or rubber parts that need instant under 5 second fixture. Apply adhesive to one mating surface. Assemble parts immediately. For demanding plastics like PP, PE and PTFE, use LOCTITE® SF 770 primer before bonding. Work in moderate humidity environments (≥ 40 %) to ensure effective cure. Avoid thick adhesive application to maintain rapid cure. Allow 24 hours for full strength before stress loading.
