LOCTITE® 586
Loctite® 586 is a red, high-strength, slow-curing anaerobic thread sealant designed for locking and sealing metal pipes and fittings. It cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces, forming a durable seal that prevents loosening and leakage due to shock and vibration. The adhesive is particularly effective on copper and brass fittings, where traditional anaerobic sealants may cure prematurely.
Loctite® 586 is a single-component, anaerobic sealant formulated for sealing threads in metal pipes and fittings. Its slow-curing properties are especially suited for copper and brass substrates, preventing premature curing during assembly. The product cures at room temperature when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces, forming a flexible, chemical-resistant seal. Loctite® 586 is particularly effective on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces and can cure through light coatings of industrial oils and cutting fluids without the need for prior cleaning. The adhesive exhibits temperature resistance up to 150°C, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding environments.

Features & Benefits
High-strength formulation suitable for applications requiring permanent sealing Slow-curing properties prevent premature curing on reactive metals like copper and brass Thixotropic consistency allows for easy application without migration Cures at room temperature, eliminating the need for heat or activators Resistant to oils, water, and most common organic materials, ensuring long-term seal integrity Provides high-pressure seal to prevent leaks Fluorescent under UV light for easy inspection
Problems Solved
Prevents leakage and loosening in threaded metal assemblies due to vibration and thermal cycling Eliminates the need for traditional pre-cut gaskets, reducing inventory and storage requirements Enhances reliability of sealed joints in plumbing and industrial machinery Mitigates issues associated with premature curing on reactive metal substrates
Applications
Ideal for sealing threaded metal pipes and fittings, especially copper and brass Suitable for use in applications where high-strength thread sealing is desired Effective on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces Can be used on assemblies with light oil contamination without prior cleaning Applicable in maintenance and repair operations in industrial equipment Suitable for plumbing and heavy machinery threaded components
